You can use the Vocabulary Check-up without creating an account or providing your name, email address or payment information.
IELTS Charm does not intentionally store your vocabulary answers or assessment result on its servers.
Google Analytics is optional and is only loaded after you accept analytics.
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how IELTS Charm processes information when you use the Vocabulary Check-up website.
It explains what information may be processed, why it is used, which service providers may receive it and what rights you may have under data-protection law.
2. Who is responsible for your information?
IELTS Charm is responsible for deciding how personal information is used in connection with the Vocabulary Check-up.
For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, IELTS Charm acts as the data controller for the processing described in this policy.

3. Scope of this policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the IELTS Charm Vocabulary Check-up available at:
https://vocabulary.ieltscharm.com
It does not automatically apply to unrelated websites or services that may be linked from the Vocabulary Check-up.
4. Information you provide
The Vocabulary Check-up is designed so that it can be used without creating an account or supplying directly identifying information.
IELTS Charm does not require you to provide:
- your name;
- an email address;
- a telephone number;
- a postal address;
- payment information; or
- an account password.
If you contact IELTS Charm by email, the information contained in your message will be processed so that IELTS Charm can respond to your enquiry.
This may include your email address, your name if included, and any other information that you choose to provide.
5. Vocabulary answers and assessment results
Your answers and assessment result are processed within your browser so that the Vocabulary Check-up can calculate and display your result.
IELTS Charm does not intentionally transmit or store the content of your vocabulary answers or your assessment result on its servers.
Your answers and result may remain temporarily within your browser while you use the website. They may be removed when you restart the test, refresh or close the page, depending on how the website and browser session operate.
You should not enter names, contact information or other personal information into any part of the assessment.
6. Information processed automatically
When you visit the website, limited technical information may be processed automatically by IELTS Charm's hosting, security and analytics providers.
Depending on the service and your consent choice, this may include:
- IP address and network information;
- browser type and version;
- operating system;
- device type;
- screen or display information;
- pages visited;
- referring website or traffic source;
- request dates and timestamps;
- website interaction information;
- general or approximate geographic information;
- performance measurements; and
- security, bot-detection and abuse-prevention information.
IELTS Charm does not use this information to attempt to identify individual Vocabulary Check-up users by name.
7. How information is used
Information may be processed for the following purposes:
- providing and displaying the Vocabulary Check-up;
- maintaining website security and availability;
- detecting malicious traffic, bots and abuse;
- diagnosing technical problems;
- measuring website performance;
- understanding general website use where analytics is permitted;
- improving the learning experience; and
- responding to privacy or support enquiries.
8. Cloudflare services
IELTS Charm uses Cloudflare to host, deliver, secure and monitor the Vocabulary Check-up.
Cloudflare services used by the website may include:
- Cloudflare Pages;
- Cloudflare's content-delivery network;
- DNS and secure connection services;
- security and abuse-prevention services; and
- Cloudflare Web Analytics.
Cloudflare may process technical request and security information where necessary to deliver and protect the website. This can include IP addresses, request details, timestamps and security-related information.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
IELTS Charm uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to receive general information about website traffic, usage and performance.
Cloudflare describes Web Analytics as a privacy-focused service that does not use cookies or browser local storage to collect analytics measurements.
Cloudflare Web Analytics is separate from Google Analytics. Rejecting Google Analytics does not necessarily disable Cloudflare Web Analytics because Cloudflare's service is designed to operate without analytics cookies or persistent browser identifiers.
9. Google Analytics 4
IELTS Charm uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use the Vocabulary Check-up.
Google Analytics is optional. The Google Analytics script is only loaded after you choose Accept analytics on the cookie notice.
If you reject analytics, IELTS Charm does not intentionally load the Google Analytics script or send website analytics events to Google through that service.
After consent, Google Analytics may process information about:
- pages viewed;
- website interactions and events;
- visit and session information;
- browser, device and operating-system characteristics;
- referring websites or campaign sources;
- general geographic information; and
- technical information needed to provide the service.
Google states that Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses for users in the United Kingdom, European Union or Switzerland. Technical network information may still be processed briefly so that the service can operate and derive general location information.
IELTS Charm does not intentionally send your vocabulary answers, assessment result, name, email address or other directly identifying information to Google Analytics.
10. Cookies and local storage
The website uses browser local storage to remember whether you accepted or rejected Google Analytics.

If Google Analytics is accepted, Google Analytics may place analytics cookies on your device.

11. Lawful bases for processing
IELTS Charm relies on different lawful bases depending on the purpose for which information is processed.

12. Sharing and service providers
IELTS Charm does not sell your personal information.
Limited information may be processed by organisations that provide website infrastructure or analytics services, including:
- Cloudflare, for hosting, delivery, security and privacy-focused web analytics; and
- Google, for Google Analytics after you provide consent.
Information may also be disclosed where IELTS Charm is legally required to do so, or where disclosure is reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
13. International processing
Cloudflare and Google operate internationally. Information processed through their services may be handled in countries outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal information is transferred internationally, the relevant provider is responsible for applying appropriate contractual, organisational or legal safeguards as required by applicable data-protection law.

14. Data retention
IELTS Charm keeps personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was processed, or where retention is required for security, legal or administrative reasons.
Vocabulary answers and results are not intentionally retained on IELTS Charm's servers.
The analytics-consent preference remains in your browser until you clear the website's stored data or the preference is otherwise removed.
Technical security and request logs are retained according to operational and security requirements and the retention practices of the relevant service provider.
Google Analytics information is retained according to the retention settings configured for the IELTS Charm Google Analytics property and Google's applicable retention practices.
Emails and privacy enquiries may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain an appropriate record and deal with related legal or administrative matters.
15. Security
IELTS Charm uses reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect the website and information processed through it.
These measures include:
- HTTPS encryption;
- Cloudflare security and traffic-management services;
- restricted access to website administration systems;
- software maintenance and security updates; and
- data minimisation.
No online system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
16. Children's privacy
The Vocabulary Check-up is an educational resource that may be used by learners of different ages.
It does not require users to create an account or provide their name, contact details or date of birth.
IELTS Charm does not knowingly use the Vocabulary Check-up to collect directly identifying personal information from children.
Children and young learners should not enter personal information into the assessment or send personal information by email without appropriate guidance from a parent, guardian or teacher.
17. Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you may have rights including:
- the right to be informed about processing;
- the right to request access to your personal information;
- the right to request correction of inaccurate information;
- the right to request deletion of information in certain circumstances;
- the right to request restriction of processing in certain circumstances;
- the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- the right to data portability where the legal requirements apply; and
- the right to withdraw consent for Google Analytics.
Some of these rights may not apply in every situation. IELTS Charm may need information from you to verify and process a request.
Because the Vocabulary Check-up does not require an account and IELTS Charm does not intentionally store assessment answers, IELTS Charm may not hold enough information to identify data as relating to a particular visitor.
